E-mail Address
A valid e-mail address that belongs to you is required for registration. A valid e-mail address is important because it will be used by others to "Give" you a file and to notify you when someone has "Given" you a file. It will also be included in a notification to another user when you "Give" a file.
An e-mail address can only be used by one ID in My Docs Online
If a registered user "Gives" a file to a non-user by specifying an e-mail address, the non-user will receive an e-mail notification with a link which can be used to directly access the file without registering. However, the non-user's e-mail address is reserved as a Temporary ID, and because of this it cannot be used in a normal registration. Instead, the non-user wishing to register should access the temporary file by following the link included in the notification e-mail and then use the Complete Registration button on that page. This will allow the e-mail address of the Temporary ID to be used.
If you wish to change your e-mail address you can do that by clicking on the
"My Account" link at on the Navigation Bar, which will bring you to your account "Control Panel".
Here you can change your e-mail address under the "Change E-Mail Address" section.
Simply type in your new e-mail address, and then click on the "Update" button.

Exceeding Your Space Limit
If you attempt to upload a file larger than the remaining amount of free space within your account, you will receive a Space Limit Notification. You may either return to your "My Files" section in the File List screen and delete files to create available space or you may cancel the current upload.

Faxing Documents using a desktop browser
If you have purchased an optional outbound fax package, an additional delivery option
will be displayed when you select a file in the browser-based interface and click
"Give". On the resulting screen, if you select "Give File(s) to Others", the normal
"Give File" screen will be displayed. If you click "Deliver as Fax" the resulting screen
includes the following fields for fax delivery:
- Fax Number (required, including area code and 7-digit number.
No "1" required; no formatting)
- Recipient (optional, a name to be included on the "To:" line
of the cover sheet)
- Subject (optional, a subject line to be included on the "Re:" line of the
cover sheet)
- Message (optional, a short message up to 250 characters to be
included in the body of the cover sheet)
In addition, the fax cover sheet will include, on the "From" line, the contents of
the Fax Cover Page "From" field, which is set on the "My Account" page.
NOTE: outbound fax delivery is limited to North American numbers only.
Faxing Documents From a Wireless Device
Many documents stored in your My Docs Online account can be faxed to any fax machine in the US or Canada directly from your Internet-enabled wireless device.
There are two methods of sending faxes from wireless devices, through a wireless Web browser, or through forwarding email messages containing attachments.
Sending Faxes through a wireless Web browser:
To access the Wireless Fax feature, login to your My Docs Online account from your
wireless browser. Select a folder and then a file you wish to send as a
fax. If you have purchased the optional fax package, enterable fields will appear
allowing you to key in:
- An area code and phone number (a "1" preceding the 10-digit number is not
required).
- The name of the recipient (to:) optional
- What the fax is about (re:) optional
- A cover page message. This information and your Fax Cover Page "From"
information (which can be set from "My Account") will appear on the fax cover
page at the destination. optional
Sending faxes by forwarding email attachments:
To send a fax by forwarding an email attachment simply forward the email message containing the file attachment to: "Fax@MyAttachments.com". (The word "fax" is entered in the address, not a fax number). Add this address to your device address book for easy access. Next enter the destination fax number as the Subject of the email (the fax number should be the only item in the subject field). The attachment will then print in its native format at the specified fax machine.
Files From Others
If one or more users have "Given" you a file, a folder for each of these users will appear at the top of the Folder List, on the left side of the Folder View page, under "Files From Others", organized into folders named for each user who has "Given" you a file. These folders appear automatically when another user has given you one or more files. You do not need to create or delete folders in "Files From Others". The folders and files in this section are automatically deleted after 7 days unless the files are moved out of the "Files From Others" section.
When you click on a another user's ID under "Files From Others" in the Folder List to the left, the Folder Contents to the right will display the files that user has given you.

File and Folder Views and Lists
The Folder View page that is displayed after login contains two important frames; the Folder List to the left displays ALL your folders, including folders nested inside other folders, as well as a "virtual" folder for each
My Docs Online user from whom you currently have a file that user has "Given" you.
The Folder List is always present while you are logged in (except when you are viewing the contents of certain types of files) and you can switch from folder to folder by clicking the folder name.
The Folder Contents frame to the right initially displays the list of files in the root of your
My Docs Online file space. If you are switching from the previous, non-folder version of
My Docs Online this is where ALL your files will be displayed, until you (optionally) move them to the folders you have created.
When you click on a different folder's name in the Folder List to the left, the Folder Contents to the right is updated.
Files that have been "Given" to you by other users ("Files From Others") are organized into folders named for each user who has "Given" you a file. These folders appear and disappear dynamically based on whether another user has given you one or more files. You do not need to create or delete folders in "Files From Others".
File Name
The File Name field lists the name of the file and also functions as a way of retrieving the file.
Folders
My Docs Online allows you to create folders
to manage the files you have stored in your account. To create a
folder simply click on the New Folder button at the left side of the
file list screen, pick a destination for the folder (do you want it to
be a sub-folder of My Files, or do you want it to be a sub-folder of
another folder), and select a name for the folder. When you are ready
click on the Create Folder button.
You can rename any folder in "My Files" by clicking the folder,
then clicking the "Rename Folder" button. In the textbox type the new
name of the folder, then click the "Rename Folder" button below the
textbox.

To Give Files to Others, check the box next to the file or files you want to share, then click the "Give" button at the top of the screen. The final step is to enter the e-mail addresses of the people you wish to give the file to and click the "Done" button.
My Docs Online will send an e-mail notification to alert your recipient(s) that the file is waiting for them at My Docs Online. For users who do not have a My Docs Online account, the e-mail message will include a link that will take the recipient directly to My Docs Online, where they can browse or download your file(s).
My Docs Online users will be notified that the files are available in their "Files from Others" section.
Recipients will only have access to the file(s) you give and they will not see any of your other files. NOTE: When you Give a file to someone, they get their own "copy". Deleting your copy WILL NOT delete the copy you have already given. Updating your copy of the file WILL NOT update the copy you have given.
If you need the ability to update or "take back" a file you are sharing with others, consider using your Public Folder.
Give Files to Others Results
After you Give Files to Others, My Docs Online takes you to the Results screen which provides information about the Give:
A list of files that was Given, and for each file:
- Destination
Lists the recipient(s) you sent the file to.
- Result
Informs you if the Give was successful, unsuccessful or unnecessary.
- Reason
Relates to the result field, providing an explanation of the result. For example, if the

Public Folders
Your Public folder allows you to move selected files to a location within My Docs Online where the files can be "served" to any user's browser using a file-specific URL. URLs pointing to files in your Public folder can be used in web pages, copied into your emails or other documents, etc. (Note: not supported by the Backup Edition.)
To use this feature follow these steps:
- If you don't have a Public folder, create one.
Login to your account and look at the list of folders at the left of the screen. If you don't see one named Public/, click the red New Folder button and create a folder named Public with My Files/ as the Destination.
- Move a file you have already uploaded into the Public folder by selecting it, clicking Move, and selecting Public/ as the Destination. To get a file into the Public folder you will always have to first upload it to another folder (like My Files/) and then move it. This is to avoid inadvertently uploading a sensitive file into a location where it might be seen by the wrong person. Duplicate file names are not allowed in the Public folder.
- In the Public folder, select a file with its checkbox and click Details.
The sixth line of detail ("Link:") shows the file's URL. File URLs are always in the form:
http://www.mydocsonline.com/pub/user-id/filename where user-id is replaced by your My Docs Online login ID and filename is replaced by the name of the specific file.
You can highlight and copy this link to use in emails, on web pages, etc. Try pasting it into your browser's Address field to see how it works.
If you have an older-style My Docs Online ID containing a blank, go to "My Account" and change your ID to one that contains no blanks. Also, although the Public folder does support filenames that contain blanks, URLs require replacing blanks with "%20" which results in longer, less user-friendly URLs. You can avoid this by renaming files destined for the Public folder so that they do not contain blanks.
